COWI A/S is an international consulting group, specialising in engineering, environmental science and economics, based in Lyngby, Denmark. COWI has 85-year experience in the consulting business about engineering and has now become a leading company in this field. In 2017, Engineering News-Record ranked COWI the 1st in solid waste, 3rd in bridge consultancy and 4th in harbour and marine structures.
The famous projects they have been responsible including two suspension bridges at Uittamo and Pargas in Finland (1960), Copenhagen metro (1998). The design of the two suspension bridges in Finland was the inspiration for many other bridges which were built later, including the famous Little Belt in Denmark. The Copenhagen driverless metro system is a great success and is still on growth with two more lines coming up, all designed by COWI. COWI is constantly expanding its impacts on the society, and has now been involved in more than 50,000 projects worldwide. Among those projects, many are projects in the developing countries on collaboration with the World Bank the United Nations Development Programme like the Tanzam Highway in Tanzania (2005). COWI now has more than 6,600 employees around the globe to serve consulting service for more than 14,000 projects each year.
